Low fat diets and recipes

Welcome to our low fat weigh loss page, here you will find some tips on dieting and weight loss, you are of course best to seek medical advice before starting any diet or weight loss programme.

  • The low fat diet is based on 30 grams of fat a day, once it was suggested that you fill up on lots of bread pasta, and rice, but now the rules have changed slightly, and you are now adviced to add more low fat products like low fat dairy, and low fat protein and heap more fruit and veg than before, this leads to a quicker weight loss, and helps one to be more healthy, you will find some recipes here including pasta and rice but just don't over do it,

 

  • Exercise, it is sugested that you do 30 -40 mins at least 3 times a week, but it can also be helpful if you split it up and perhaps do 15-20 mins twice a day this is good if you are really unfit, and find it hard to go for a full 30 to  40 mins at one time,

 

  • And of course it is best to sit and choose a diet carefully, find one that suits your likes and dislikes, and don't force your self to start a diet because it offers quick weight loss if you don't like the food content, it makes no sense in the long run

 

  • It has recently been suggested that meditation can lead to weight loss perhaps because it leads to peace and harmony, and helps you to manage stress better, and of course now it is well kown that stress can lead to weight gain so this would make sense

 

  • Find a weight loss buddy and get as much support as you can, it would be a good idea to find one that is following a programme that is similar to your own, you will be able to encourage one another and even swap recipes.

 

  • Weigh your self once a week at the same time, and don't be discouraged if you have not lost anything, these things can take time just stick with your programme as much as possible, and do your best, slow weight loss is more likely to be permanent than fast weight loss.

 

  • write your self out some positive affirmations, and start the day off reading them, fill your mind with positive things and believe that you can do it, know matter what, if you slip up the world is not going to come to and end, and neither should your diet, you have to live your life as normally as possible, and in normal life people slip up sometimes but this does not mean there life is over, you just cary on as though it did not happen, and continue on, feeling guilty or bad is not good as this can cause you to stop for weeks or even months and then you will be right back where you started so get used to the occasional mishap, your doing really well so remind your self of this daily.

 

Recipes

 

3 Mushroom Salad  

1 1/2 cups thinly sliced button mushrooms
1 cup sliced portobello mushroom caps
1 cup thinly sliced shitake mushrooms
2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
1 Tbsp. minced shallots
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup sherry vinegar
1 Tbsp. low sodium soy sauce
2 tsp. honey
8 cups gourmet salad greens
2 Tbsp. chopped walnuts, toasted

Heat nonstick skillet which has been coated with nonstick cooking spray spray. Add mushrooms, parsley, shallots, and garlic; saute 3 minutes or until tender. Combine sherry vinegar, soy sauce and honey; add to skillet. Remove mixture from heat and spoon over salad greens. Sprinkle with walnuts.

 

Asian Chicken Salad  

1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
2 cups cooked sliced chicken (approx. 2 breasts)
1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
1 cup sliced red bell pepper
1/2 cup sliced scallions
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Hot sauce to taste
6 cups mixed greens

In a bowl, mix together chicken, pineapple chunks, red pepper, scallions and cilantro. In a separate bowl, whisk together yogurt, brown sugar, soy sauce and hot sauce. Toss sauce together with chicken mixture. Let stand at least 20 minutes before serving over a bed of greens.

Black Bean and Red Pepper Salad  

2 large red bell peppers, chopped
1 15- to 16-ounce can black beans, rinsed, well drained
1/2 cup chopped yellow bell pepper
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
1/4 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon grated orange peel

Combine all ingredients and season to taste with salt and pepper. Chill at least 4 hours before serving.

Chicken Pasta Salad  

1 can (14 1/2 ounces) nonfat chicken broth
1/2 cup nonfat mayonnaise
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried dill weed or dried basil leaves, crushed
3 cups hot cooked corkscrew macaroni (about 2 1/2 cups dry)
1 cup cherry tomatoes cut in half
1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1 small red onion, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
2 cups cubed cooked chicken
lettuce leaves

In medium bowl, with fork or wire whisk, mix broth, mayonnaise, cheese and dill weed. In large bowl toss pasta, tomatoes, peas, mushrooms, onion, chicken and broth mixture until evenly coated. Refrigerate at least 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve on lettuce.

 

 

 

Broccoli Salad  

3 cups broccoli florets
1/2 cup shredded carrot
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup salted peanuts
1/2 cup light mayonnaise
3 tablespoons Mustard, honey
1/2 teaspoon curry powder

In large bowl, combine broccoli, carrots, raisins and peanuts. In small bowl, combine mayonnaise, honey mustard and curry. Pour dressing over salad and toss gently, yet thoroughly to coat. Refrigerate covered until ready to serve.
